Those with a passing interest in Models will have heard of this album, those who became fans from the early days will probably see it as their last true “Models” album, before going the commercial pop route with their last two LPs. For me, it was a milestone release, or at least the opening track, I Hear Motion, was. Hearing that on EON-FM (Triple M, for the younger ones out there), followed by an ad for Models – Pleasure of your Company tour. I was 12 and the spark the song planted in me made me do all I could to get a ticket – having never been to a concert previously. Palais Theatre, St Kilda, supported by I’m Talking (who, rather unfairly, were booed and jeered by at least those in the area I was seated). The experience blew my mind. Not long after, I purchased the album on cassette and played it to death. Later buying the original vinyl, which I still own today. The Pleasure of your Company is a classic. Yes, I went out and bought their earlier stuff, AlphaBravo…, Cut Lunch, Local &/or General. All great, all got me hooked, but Pleasure was the one. This reissue is 10 out of 10. But, then, the original was about that anyway. The 180gm certainly sturdier, the purple of the vinyl is a good look. Remastered, for me, it’s hard to tell what has really been done, besides perhaps some tinkering and extra clarity. However, my turntable is not much younger than the original recording so on modern systems I expect the difference would be much more glaring.
In a nutshell, get this while you can. Even if just to replace your worn out 80s copy, if you have it. Lyrics to all songs are included, in clear type. And, even on my clapped out system, the tracks pump out clear. Classic album, bloody great music.
And, a extra thank you to Andrew Duffield for the speedy delivery, he’ll know what I mean.
